What is Micro-Hair Restoration?

Micro-Hair restoration is a technique of transplanting hair from one area to another to create the appearance of a natural hairline and to add volume to areas where there is little or no hair. Dr. Prasad's background of microsurgery combined with his years of experience as a facial cosmetic surgeon has helped many men and women improve their appearance significantly and avoid the typical "pluggy" look. The newest innovation in hair restoration has achieved the most natural look possible. The advantages of having a cosmetic surgeon perform the procedure is that he can use the same surgical skill, artistry and expertise that is necessary to operate on the face and eyes and bring it to hair restoration. Micro hair restoration is performed with minute grafts so a naturally irregular hairline can be created. Micro hair restoration performed by a good surgeon allows for an ideal hair pattern that complements the face. Also, a cosmetic surgeon can use his skills to optimally repair the closure of the donor site so it can't be felt when you run your hand over the scalp.

What type of anesthesia do you use for Micro Hair Restoration?

Micro hair restoration is accomplished with tiny grafts comprised of single to 3 follicles sized units. It is performed with local anesthesia and occasional IV sedation.

Who is a good candidate for Micro Hair restoration?

Persons with male and female pattern hair loss are both candidates. Male hair pattern loss is an expanding bald patch over the crown of the head with a receding hairline that typically starts at the temples. Female hair loss pattern is a diffuse pattern that starts with widening of a part and develops into thinning over the top of the head. Other causes of hair loss such as previous surgery or trauma to the scalp can be addressed with this procedure as well. Other candidates include those who have lost eyebrows from over plucking or from previous facial surgery from a traditional face lift that involved hair loss from the sides or the temples.

What percentage of men and women suffer from hair loss?

Hair loss is more prevalent than most people think. In men, the "rule of decades" applies, which means that 20% of men in their 20's, 30% of men in their 30's and so on. In women, overall the percentage of hair loss is about 30% and this percentage increases after the age of 40.

What kind of results can you get with Micro hair restoration?

The most important point is that a person must understand what his or her realistic expectations should be. In most cases, a person can expect to have an age appropriate result. Hair restoration has a very uplifting effect on the self-esteem for our patients. Since fewer women suffer from hair loss and because women traditionally have full heads of hair, hair loss in women is particularly damaging to a woman's ego. Micro hair restoration is a good solution for this population.

How much does Micro Hair Restoration cost?

Many surgeons charge per graft but we prefer to charge by session so that we can give you maximal density during each session. Obviously the number of sessions required depends on the extent of hair loss, the amount of available donor hair, and the desired cosmetic goals.

Who do I meet with during a consultation for Micro Hair Restoration?

Unlike many practices, in our practice we believe that the patient should consult with Dr. Amiya Prasad and not a salesman/coordinator.
